Havok

Real Name: Alexander Summers
Affiliation: Starjammers
Previous Affiliations: X-Men, The Six, X-Factor II, The Brotherhood
Relatives: Summers family
Aliases: Goblin Prince
Alternate-X Versions: (AOA), (Mutant X), (Evolution), (Ultimate)
Codename Etymology: Pronounced hăv'ək [From Old French, havot "plundering"]; (misspelling, should be havoc) Vast destruction, chaos.
Powers & History: Havok absorbs ambient stellar energy and reemits it as a focused plasma blast strong enough to melt steel or fry a person, although he can finely tune it to cause little or no damage. Alex has at times required a containment suit to keep all the energy from constantly discharging. He is immune to his brother Cyclops' power, and vice versa. Although his power actually first manifested itself when he was a child, when he killed a bully that was threatening him and his foster sister, the memory was suppressed, and Alex did not re-discover that he was a mutant until his college years. As a geology student, Alex met archaeology professor Ahmet Abdol, also a mutant with the ability to absorb stellar radiation. Abdol, who called himself the Living Pharaoh, had discovered a psychic link between himself and Summers, and also that Alex's body was somehow jamming his own ability to rechannel the energy that he absorbed. Abdol captured Alex and took him to his lab in Egypt, where he managed to shield Summers from cosmic radiation, allowing his own body to realize its potential. Abdol became the Living Monolith, a giant mutant who was then fought by the X-Men. During the battle, Alex's mutant powers activated, due to the strain of entrapment in the Monolith's machine, defeating the Monolith. However, Alex could not control his powers and remained in the Egyptian desert until he was captured by a Sentinel and brought to the base of its creator, Larry Trask. Trask gave Summers the code-name Havok and a suit which contained his energy and monitored it. The X-Men eventually fought Trask and his Sentinels, and Havok was freed, along with other captive mutants, but an unleashing of his power destroyed the temple they were in, severely injuring him. The X-Men brought Alex to a doctor, Karl Lykos, whom they knew of from Professor X's files, and left him for treatment. Lykos turned out to be an energy-drainer, and his absorption of Havok's unique mutant energy transformed him into Sauron. After the X-Men defeated Sauron in the Savage Land Havok joined the team to learn to control his power. He soon fell in love with Lorna Dane (Polaris), and after the battle with Proteus, the couple left the X-Men and went to pursue their mutual interest in geology in the American Southwest. Alex and Lorna stayed there for a while, until the Marauders attacked and bonded Malice to Lorna, subverting her will and turning her into their evil leader. At the same time, Alex's powers were beginning to flare out of control, so after escaping the Marauders, he went to New York and contacted the X-Men. Havok was with the X-Men when they "died" in Dallas to defeat the Adversary, and went with them to Australia upon their "resurrection." Around the time of "Inferno," Alex's sister-in-law Madelyne Pryor, who had also been with the team in Dallas, appeared to have started an affair with him. It should be noted that Madelyne was probably seducing Alex with her latent telepathy and magic, and that the world, including her husband Scott, considered all of them to be dead. After Madelyne's death during "Inferno," the X-Men were attacked by Nanny II, and during the battle, Havok fired at Nanny's ship, which appeared to explode, killing Storm. Actually, the body they found in the wreckage was a decoy, but at the time, Havok was very distraught by his actions. Soon afterwards, Havok received a desperate call from Lorna, claiming to be free of Malice and in trouble. The X-Men traced Lorna to the Savage Land, where they rescued her from Zaladane, but not before her magnetic powers were stolen. Upon their return to Australia, the team found themselves under attack by the Reavers and when it was obvious they were losing, stepped through the Siege Perilous (with a little telepathic shoving from Psylocke), a gateway to judgement and rebirth into new lives. Alex ended up in Genosha, an amnesiac, and was told that he was one of their magistrates. He was freed from their control and his memories returned after the X-Men were put on trial and escaped, taking down the ruling government, and helping to set up a combined leadership in its place. Havok stayed in Genosha to help with the rebuilding, but was coaxed away by Val Cooper, who asked him to lead the new government-sponsored version of X-Factor. Havok accepted, and was X-Factor's leader until his powers started to flare again and he was captured by Random and brought to Dark Beast, who brainwashed him and added an anti-gravity harness and power-focusing gauntlets to his costume. Alex broke the conditioning around the time of the Onslaught crisis, but refused to rejoin his team. Saying that he was tired of being manipulated, he formed the Brotherhood and began participating in terrorist activites, most notably an assault on a passenger jet that culminated in him and his brother Cyclops falling to the ground together. Havok teleported away, and later hijacked a train load of nerve gas from Canada's Department H. Finally it was revealed that the whole Brotherhood was a sham, meant to allow Havok to get close to McCoy and stop his horrific genetic experiments. Immediately before making his final move against Dark Beast, Havok was contacted by the time-traveling X.U.E. and warned not to proceed. Thankfully, Havok listened, and did not release McCoy's prisoners. Doing so would have allowed hundreds of people with the Legacy Virus to go free, and would have resulted in the deaths of millions. Havok remained in New York with the X.U.E., and was given a headquarters by Forge, essentially turning X-Factor back over to him. He continued making contacts with his old friends and family and assembled a new X-Factor, including the X.U.E. Unfortunately, on their first day as a team, Greystone went insane and built a time-traveling vehicle, intending to go back to the future which was his past, now that it had been changed. Knowing that the machine was unstable, Havok got aboard and was attempting to defuse it when it exploded. Although Havok appeared to have died, his "soul was actually transported to another reality and merged with the body of his counterpart there, who is married to Madelyne and leads a dark version of X-Factor called the Six.

The Havok of the Mutant X Universe was the sole survivor of his parents' plane crash. He was recruited by Professor Xavier and came to lead the X-Men. He also fell in love with his teammate Jean Grey (Ariel), and was primiarily responsible for the improvement in human-mutant relations in that world. After the death of Ariel, Havok met and fell in love with Madelyne Pryor, who bore a striking resemblance to his dead lover. The two were soon married and had a son, Scott, but when Magneto took over the X-Men, Havok felt that he couldn't stay, and with the other original members, he formed X-Factor under the auspicies of the government. X-Factor continued to improve human-mutant relations, until it disbanded when its members underwent great physical changes. Sometime before the Inferno event, Havok gathered his old friends, although changed in both mind and body, along with Bloodstorm, and formed the Six. Together they helped save the world from demons, and saved Scotty. Around this time, Alex also had an affair with Susan Richards of the Fantastic Four. When the affair ended, Alex was extremely jealous of the friendship that had developed between his depressed wife and Ice-Man, and he suspected them of having an affair. So insanely jealous was Alex that he actually blew up Bob's healing chamber while he was still in it. Unfortunately, this act didn't hurt Ice-Man, but instead caused an explosion that turned Hank McCoy into the Brute. It appears that this version of Alex was not such a nice guy. During a battle with S.H.I.E.L.D., a human terrorist group, Havok was shot and fell into the river, where he apparently died. However, the soul of Havok from our world merged with this Havok's body, and Havok was saved by the Brute. He bonded with Scotty, and watched his wife turn evil before his eyes. Havok returned to the X-Mansion with Scotty and Elektra, his nanny, and tried to keep the Goblin Queen (Madelyne) from taking possession of her son for her dark purposes. For the time being, he abandoned his efforts to return to his own universe. Finally, after Madelyne had truly become the Goblin Queen and tried to take over the world, Alex revealed the truth about his origins.

Later, Alex was called upon to help protect Apocalypse, a beneficient being in this reality, from Professor X, whom it appears had been corrupted by the Shadow King. After a wild chase and with the help of Scotty, X-Man and Raven (Gambit's adopted daughter), Xavier was defeated. Havok sent the children to the X-Men's moonbase, then continued to lead the Six in searching for and helping mutants. Things turned for the worse, however, when Jean got a distress call from Logan, who was being hunted by Weapon X. His family was in danger too, so the Six went to help. Unfortunately, this brought them into conflict with the Avengers, and Havok was forced to fight Cap, who had lost all control of his mind and powers. They fought for hours, and release enough energy to blow up part of the moon itself, but finally Havok was victorious. Things did not slow down, as the rebord Beyonder and Dracula made their assault on the heroes of the world. Dr. Strange finally appeared and revealed that the Beyonder was after the Nexus of All Realities, which was actually located inside Havok. Most of the heroes were dead by this time, and Magneto had everyone relocat to his Antarctic base. Using the combined energies and resources of Baron Mordo, Xavier, the Fallen and Reed Richards, Havok's mind was able to transport himself and the Beyonder to a new plane of reality. There Havok forced the Goblin Queen to reveal herself, and freed Madelyne from its thrall. Havok said goodbye to Maddie as he used the Nexus to erase the Goblin Queen's existence, which sucked him away as well.

Alex recently turned up as a "John Doe" patient in a clinic in upstate New York. He had acquired a scar down the right side of his face, and was completely catatonic. His nurse, Anne Ghazakanian, secretly fell in love with him and hoped he would someday wake up and take her away. Annie eventually discovered Alex's true identity after seeing his picture in an article about the Xavier Institute, and she brought him home, whereupon she joined the Institute's staff as head nurse. Professor X tried to reach Alex's mind, but was unsuccessful. However, when Annie's son Carter attempted to reach Alex, he got trapped, and then Polaris returned to find Annie pounding on Alex to let Carter go. Polaris attacked Annie and was restrained, and then Alex woke up. Alex helped Professor X bring Carter back, and then had a big family reunion, during which Polaris (obviously feeling threatened by Annie's crush on Alex) proposed to Havok, and he (sort of) accepted. The couple immediately left to join an archaeological dig (along with Nightcrawler, who took leave from the X-Men), in order to reconnect and plan their wedding.

Unfortunately, Annie weighed on Alex's mind and he left Lorna at the altar. After fending off her insane attacks, Alex found out that Carter had been using his powers to allow his mom and Alex to "date" in their dreams for the past year, explaining how they knew each other so intimately. Though Alex went on a short vacation with Annie, their relationship soon soured and Annie left the school. In the meantime, Alex has taken over leadership of one of the X-Men field teams. Though he denies it, he was also quite upset by Lorna and Bobby's new relationship.

After M-Day, when Lorna was de-powered, Alex left the Mansion with her, much to Bobby's chagrin (because he himself was under observation due to his power glitch). They encountered an alien presence, Daap, and Alex was helpless as Lorna was drawn to Apocalypse's Sphinx. Havok returned to the Mansion, and when Apocalypse later attacked the United Nations, was instrumental in battling the new Horsemen alongside the Sentinels. Discovering that Lorna had been turned into Pestilence III, Havok fought her off, but when she collapsed following Apocalypse's defeat, Havok risked his life to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, potentially infecting himself with the hundreds of diseases she carried. Emma Frost then gave Havok the blood of Apocalypse to drink, which removed all the contagions, though she didn't tell him what it was.

Later, after learning of the existence of another brother, Vulcan, and the return of Professor X to the Mansion, Havok agreed to join Xavier on a mission to Shi'ar space to stop Vulcan's quest for revenge. He helped to rescue Polaris from an anti-Apocalypse cult in Egypt and was willing to help her re-acclimate to the team. Polaris seemed much more in control of herself and re-kindled their relationship. Unfortunately, after contacting the Starjammers and freeing Lilandra from imprisonment after a coup, Havok saw Vulcan kill their father Corsair in the final battle. As the other X-Men (except himself, Polaris and Rachel Grey) were already sent home by Lilandra, Havok vowed to lead the Starjammers against his brother and stop him by any means necessary.
